8 Days Morocco trip from Tangier to Merzouga

DAY 1 – Tangier – Chefchaouen

Meet and greet in Tangier. Drive into the Rif Mountains and pass through the city of Tetoun to take in a glorious view of the mountains. Chefchaouen is also known as The Blue City and is nestled into the Rif Mountains. A wonderfully charismatic village where you can wander the chilled out streets and marvel over the funky vibe and awesome arts and crafts shops. The medina reflects the village’s Spanish influence in the past with lots of roof top restaurants and cafes throughout the city. Overnight stay at Riad / Hotel.

DAY 2 – Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

Depart for Volubilis after breakfast. Passing through Wazan and other small villages located in the Rif Mountains. Arrive in Volubilis and explore the Roman ruins. Continue on to Meknes, the Olive City and explore its attractions such as the medina, Bab el Mansour and Moulay Ismail’s shrine. Head to Fes for dinner and overnight stay in Riad / Hotel.

DAY 3 – Fes

Today, after breakfast we explore the wonders of Fes. Starting in the medina exploring the alleyways, then visiting the Jewish Quarter and the Royal Palace. Visit the famous tanneries of Fes where they have been making and dying leathers in this traditional way for centuries. After this we will visit the Karaouine Mosque which is known as the first university in the world. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay in Riad / Hotel.

DAY 4 – Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz valley – Erfoud – Merzouga camel ride and 1 night in a desert camp

After breakfast, depart for Ifrane, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco” due to the cooler climate and alpine forests that surround it. Passing through Azroud, a Berber village in the cedar forest, where the famous forest monkeys; the endangered Barbary Macaques live and may be spotted while we are there. Stopping for lunch in Midelt and afterwards we travel through the red landscape of the Ziz Valley, decorated with oases and palm groves growing on the banks of the Ziz River. We will stop to take photos! Travel on through Erfoud and Rissani finally arriving in Merzouga Desert. Here you will enjoy a welcome cup of mint tea and leave you luggage at the hotel before you depart on your camel trek into the desert! Stopping to experience the wonders of a Saharan Sunset and feel the magic of the dunes. Continue camel trekking to the traditional desert camp and enjoy listening to the guides play the desert drums under the stars.

DAY 5 – Merzouga Todra gorges – Dades gorges

Early start to catch the wonderful sunrise enveloped by the tranquillity of the dunes. Camel trek back to the hotel in Merzouga for breakfast and a shower. Depart for Rissani where you can visit the authentically Moroccan souk and spice market. Continue the journey on to Tinghir and explore the Todra Gorge: the highest in Morocco. We will explore the valley with a small hike. After lunch we will travel to Dades where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a Riad / Hotel.

DAY 6 – Dades valley – Roses valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast we travel through the Dades valley and arrive in Ouarzazate, along the route of 1000 Kasbahs. We will visit Kalaat Mgouna: the centre of the Valley of Roses, here you can buy the famous rose water. Continue on to Ouarzazate where we will visit the film studio and the world famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou: the setting of many Hollywood blockbuster movies and programmes such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We continue our journey to Marrakech, passing through the Atlas Mountains and the highest part of them: Tizi ‘n Tichka at 2260 metres. Arriving in Marrakech for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 7 – Marrakech

After breakfast we explore the awesome and beguiling “red city of Morocco.” Marrakech is full of vibrant culture and history. We will visit the Koutoubia Tower, the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace and wander through the bustling Jemma el Fna Square in the medina. After lunch we will explore the souks where true artisans sell their hand crafted goods. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore and relax.

DAY 8 – Marrakech to airport

The tour ends today and we will transfer you to the airport.
